How to personalize Docs with SSO
Step 1: Set up SSO for Foleon Docs
First, you'll need to successfully set up Single Sign-On (SSO) for your Foleon Docs. If you haven't already, we recommend you follow the steps in our article: Single Sign-On (SSO) for your Foleon Docs.
Foleon only supports SSO through SAML2.0 (Security Assertion Markup Language). In this article, we'll use Google as an example ā as they're Foleon's supplier.
š”Foleon only offers SSO for select plans. If you're interested in using this functionality, please reach out to our Customer Success Management team.
Ā
Step 2: Activate SSO for the Doc you want to personalize
Once you've successfully set up SSO, you'll need to select this access control method for the Foleon Docs you want it to be active on.
In the Foleon Doc settings, scroll down to theĀ access control section, and in the dropdown, select Single Sign-On (SSO).
After you make these changes to the settings, please make sure to save and (re)publish your Foleon Doc.Ā
ā ļø If the single sign-on (SSO) option is greyed out as an access method and it's included in your plan, this means you still need to set up SSO for Foleon DocsĀ in theĀ account settings as described above.
Step 3: Set up SAML attribute mapping
In your identity provider (IdP), you store and manage your users' digital identities. Open the SSO configuration you've set up for your Foleon Docs.
In this example, we're using our IdP Google, but the steps will be similar for other suppliers.Ā
Next, configure yourĀ SAML attribute mapping. Can't find it for your identity provider? We recommend searching your IDP's knowledge base for the correct steps (e.g., how it works in Okta).Ā
ClickĀ add mapping.Ā
In our example, we want to automatically address visitors to our internal newsletter with their first name. That's why we set up an attribute with the unique identifier first_name. Click save.Ā
Of course, you can set up other text properties, such as company name, department, or country.
ā ļø It's important that the unique identifier of your Foleon Doc property matches first_nameĀ exactly. We'll show you in the next steps.Ā
Step 4: Create a property (Dashboard)
In the dashboard, open the account settings and navigate to the personalization tab. Click on + New property. Properties are used to create personalized versions of your Foleon Docs.
š”For a detailed step-by-step guide, read our article Personalize Docs using text properties.
Letās say we want to address the visitor by their first name as they enter our content. In the property name field, we enter First name. We set āthereā as the default value, so when the first name of your visitor is missing, your content still looks complete for the visitor.
Check theĀ property alias. It should exactly match the unique identifier of your IdP ā in this case,Ā first_name.Ā
Click create.Ā
Ā
Navigate to projects and open the Foleon Doc you want to personalize in your content editor. We're personalizing the next edition of our internal newsletter.Ā
Ā
Step 5: Insert a property (Editor)
In the text field you'd like to personalize, leave space for a personalization property, go into the text and clickĀ personalize.Ā
š”For a detailed step-by-step guide, read our article Personalize Docs using text properties or page-based conditions conditions.
Ā
Select the property you've created and clickĀ insert.Ā
Ā
As you see in the example below, we're addressingĀ colleagues personally in our latest Foleon internal newsletter.Ā
As mentioned before, personalization through page-based conditions can also be applied to SSO login. The page-based conditions article explains how to set this up.
Step 6: Publish and test SSO login
Next, publish your Foleon Doc.Ā
Open the live URL of your Foleon Doc, log in using SSO, and see how your personalization property works its magic. šŖ
Current limitations
We're currently working on integrating SSO tracking into our Foleon Analytics report. This will allow you to track the performance of Foleon Docs you've personalized with SSO.Ā
