What is content mid-gating?
First, let’s start with a quick review of what (un)gated content and how mid-gating fits in.
-
-
Gated content 🔐
Content that requires the visitor to share information before they have access. This information is usually collected through a form that includes a few professional questions relevant to your business needs. By gating content, companies set a standard of exchange in which the quality of the asset is worth providing information.
-
Ungated content🔓
The content is available to anyone, with no exchange of personal information required. Open access content can drive considerably more traffic to your site, amplifying your brand’s message more loudly. However, giving up lead data could mean lost opportunities.
-
Mid-gating 🛣️
The content becomes gated at the mid-point of being read, giving a visitor partial access to a piece of content before requiring that they fill out a form in order to keep reading.

To gate or not to gate, that is the question. We've created this handy visual to help you decide. 👇
Why mid-gating content is useful
Gating content midway offers readers a tasty appetizer and a sense of what to expect from the full meal. No false pretenses about what’s offered, no demand of personal info without a glimpse into what they’ll get in return. In this way, mid-gating encourages trust on both sides.
A reader who has started reading before deciding to fill out the form is more likely to be genuinely interested than someone who blindly fills out a form, downloads a piece of content, and promptly forgets it. With this, mid-gating your Docs can help accelerate solid lead generation.
💡 It's common practice to set up a lead generation form on your website that visitors need to fill in before they have access to the valuable content in your Foleon Doc. As an alternative, mid-gating can help you draw the visitor in, encouraging trust on both sides.

When you’ve finished setting up your lead generation form, it's time to decide where to place it.
The lead generation form can be found in the pages overview. Simply grab the lead generation gate and place it in front of the page on which you want the gate to appear.
With mid-gating, you can give your readers access to a limited portion and make them hungry for the rest.
💡Not sure where to place the gate? Read through your Foleon Doc and assess where you've given the audience a taste without giving them the full meal. Depending on the length of your content, that could be page three or page eight.
Allow reader to skip
If you want to offer readers the choice to skip and keep reading your pages without completing a form, that's possible! First, go to Pages, and click on the relevant Lead Generation gate. In Lead Generation's settings, click on General Settings, toggle on the "Allow Reader to Skip" option, and remember to republish your Doc to save the changes.
