What is personalization in Foleon?
Personalization is customizing Foleon Docs to suit a visitor's profile or preferences. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, it aims to make your content more tailored and relevant. This comes with benefits:
-
Engagement 🤝
The more relevant your content, the more likely your audience will pay attention. When your audience is presented with content that speaks to them, they will spend more time in your Foleon Doc — increasing chances of conversion. Especially when you already built a relationship with your reader earlier, you want to keep and strengthen this with relevant content.
-
Efficiency 📈
You don’t need to create a separate Foleon Doc for each person or company you want to address. Send out personalized versions of your Doc without altering your valuable original asset.
As an example, we’re creating a sales proposal. To make a lasting impression, we want to wow the visitors by addressing them personally as they land on the first page. As you can see below, we’ve personalized a Foleon Doc, especially for Richard and Douglas.
There are many forms of personalization out there. In this article, we describe how you can personalize content using text properties.
How to personalize a Doc using text properties
In three simple steps, we show you how to personalize content using text properties — leaving a lasting impression on your visitor. Follow our written guide below the video.
Step 1: Create a property (Dashboard)
In the dashboard, open the account settings and navigate to the personalization tab. Click on + New property. Properties are used to create personalized versions of your Foleon Docs.
💡 Only users with the admin or designer role can access the personalization settings.
In the pop-up window, you’ll have a few fields you need to fill in:
- Category — A category represents the different types of relationships your business has. This can either be contact or company.
- Property name — Properties are used to create personalized versions of your Foleon Docs. A popular example here would be to enter First name or Company name — allowing you to personalize based on these variables.
- Field type — The type of information you want to save. Currently, it’s only possible to personalize with text as the field type.
-
Default value — When personalization data is missing, we show the default value
to ensure your content still looks complete for every visitor. - Property alias (advanced setting) — The unique identifier of a property. This is needed to store data in our database and allows you to integrate with your CRM.
Let’s say we want to address the visitor by their first name as they enter our content. In the property name field, we enter First name. We set “there” as the default value, so when the first name of your visitor is missing, your content still looks complete for the visitor.
Click create. Navigate to projects and open the Foleon Doc you want to personalize in your content editor.
Step 2: Insert a property (Editor)
As an example, we’re creating a sales proposal. To make a lasting impression, we want to wow the visitor as they land on the first page — by addressing them personally.
Make sure you have a text element that leaves space for a first name. Place your cursor in the text element. In the text editing bar, click personalize.
Next, select the First name property we’ve created in the dashboard. We’ll use the property’s default value, just in case any personalization data is missing. Insert the property.
You’ll now see the property in your text element, but it’s not yet personalized.
Step 3: Personalize (Preview)
Open the menu of your content editor and click personalize. This opens the personalization mode for your Foleon Doc.
⚠️ Keep in mind you’ll only be able to click here once your Foleon Doc is published. If you just published your Doc, it might take a few minutes before you can insert a property.
With First name as the property, we want to address a woman named Sarah in our sales proposal. In the first name field, we enter “Sarah”. Next, click generate URL.
If you have multiple contact properties in your Foleon Doc, they’ll be visible here.
You’ve now generated a personalized Doc URL that you can send to Sarah. Copy it to your clipboard and send the proposal to her in a personalized email, for example.
Do you want to personalize your Foleon Doc for other contacts? Close the modal, fill in the other contact’s details, and generate another URL.
Do you want to personalize your Doc for multiple contacts quickly? You can personalize Foleon Docs in batches by uploading a CSV file that matches your personalization properties. This allows you to generate a list of personalized Docs for hundreds of contacts in just a few minutes.
In the top-right corner, click generate and select batch (CSV).
