Three years after introducing the Drag & Drop editor, we’re sunsetting its predecessor, the classic editor. In this article, you’ll find more information about what’s changing and when.
In this article
Timeline
It will happen in 2 phases:
-
April 2021: The classic dashboard is sunsetted.
-
September 1st, 2021: The classic editor, its reporting analytics, and forms are all sunsetted.
What’s changing
Firstly, from April 2021, you’ll no longer have access to the classic dashboard (my.foleon.com). From this point, you can still update existing classic Foleon Docs but can no longer create new ones (you'll still be able to duplicate existing ones).
The classic dashboard:
Secondly, from September 1st, 2021, the classic editor will no longer be accessible. This means you’ll no longer be able to:
-
Create, update, or duplicate classic Foleon Docs.
-
Convert classic Foleon Docs to a PDF file.
-
Use forms in your classic docs nor download historical submissions.
-
Track reporting analytics or view historical data.
-
Export classic Foleon Docs as a ZIP-file (for self-hosting).
Please note that we will not take any of your classic Foleon Docs offline. They will remain online unless you decide to take them offline yourself.
The classic editor:
We recommend moving all classic Foleon Docs with forms to the Drag & Drop editor before September 1st, 2021 (more on this below).
Why we’re doing this
Over the years, we’ve invested heavily in our platform to address our customers' growing needs. As we look to the future, we need to make hard decisions to ensure continued platform growth and effective customer service.
By making these changes, we can ensure a better overall customer experience through streamlined communications, faster support, and continued development.
Steps you should take
Only customers that have access to the classic editor are affected. You can check if you have access by going to the dashboard and seeing if your Foleon Docs that were created with the Drag & Drop editor have a “Drag & Drop” label:
If that's the case (see the first Foleon Doc in the image above), it means you have access to the classic editor. In that case, we advise you to take the following steps:
-
Browse through your projects to see if you have any content created with the classic editor (Foleon Docs without the Drag & Drop label - see the second Foleon Doc in the image above).
-
If you have any, review what you want to do with them. If you want to be able to update them after September 1st, 2021, you should move them to the Drag & Drop editor beforehand (more on this below).
-
Suppose you have classic Foleon Docs that you would like to keep without being able to update them. In that case, we advise adding a third-party tracking script (e.g., via our Google Analytics integration) to ensure you can keep tracking their performance after classic analytics has been sunsetted.
Moving content from the classic editor to the Drag & Drop editor
It's not possible to automatically move content from the classic editor to the Drag & Drop editor, this needs to be done manually.
Since the classic editor and drag & drop editor have two different formats, this requires you to rebuild the content in the drag & drop editor
We recommend auditing your existing classic Foleon Docs and determining on a one-by-one basis what you want to do with them:
-
If you don't need to keep them online, you can unpublish them.
-
If you want to keep them online but have no need to update them after September 1st, 2021, you can leave them as is.
-
If you want to keep them online and want to be able to update them after September 1st, 2021, you should move them to the Drag & Drop editor. This requires rebuilding them manually.
Please keep in mind that classic forms will no longer work from September 2021. If you have any classic Foleon Docs with forms that you want to keep online, we recommend moving them to the Drag & Drop editor, even if you don't need to be able to update them after September 1st, 2021.
