You can preview your Foleon Doc to see what it looks like outside the content editor. If you’ve already published your Doc, this also allows you to preview your changes before setting them live. This article explains the two options for visibility — private and public — and how to change this.
💡 Starting July 24, 2023, the preview version of Foleon Docs has been made private by default. Before, the preview was accessible to anyone with the URL. Learn more about this change here.

How to preview your content
In your content editor, simply click the preview button in the top right corner. This will open up the preview in another tab.
⚠️ The preview is private by default. This means only people in your Foleon workspace have access. Want to make your preview public to anyone? Read on to learn how.
Once you have your preview open in a new tab, you'll see there's a white Foleon banner at the top of the page.
💡The white banner prevents you from accidentally sharing the preview as your published (live) Foleon Doc — resulting in missing out on data from Foleon Analytics or Google Analytics.
In the top-left of the preview, you'll see what the visibility of your preview is:
- This preview is private (default) — Only people in your Foleon workspace can access the preview.
- This preview is public — Anyone with the preview link has access, even if they don’t have a Foleon account.
Read on to learn how to change the visibility of your preview in the Doc settings or share modal.
Two options for visibility
As we mentioned above, there are two options for the visibility of your preview.
1. Private preview (default)
All preview links are automatically private by default. This means that when you share a preview link, only those logged into Foleon (and belonging to the relevant workspace) can access it.
This security measure ensures your content will be seen only by the intended audience.
💡If your preview is private and you're not logged into Foleon, you'll be redirected to our login page. Visitors who are logged into Foleon will have immediate access to the preview. Do you want to give people outside your Foleon workspace access? Make the preview public.
2. Public preview
Preview links are automatically private by default, but you can make them public. This means that anyone with the preview link has access, even if they don’t have a Foleon account.
You can change the preview version to public on a per-Doc basis, giving you complete control over what content can be previewed by whom. Read on to learn how to change the visibility of your preview.
How to make your preview public
As we mentioned above, there are two options for the visibility of your preview. The private preview is the default, but we understand that some of your Doc previews must be publicly accessible.
That's why we allow you to change the preview to public (and vice versa) on a per-Doc basis, giving you complete control over what content can be previewed by whom.
There are two ways you can do this.
Open the Doc settings. In the basics section, disable the toggle to make the preview public. From that moment, anyone with the preview link will have access, even if they don't have a Foleon account.
💡Don't forget to save your change. Don't worry; you can always revert your changes.
Alternatively, you can change the visibility in your preview. First, click the share preview button in the top-right corner of the preview.
Next, click the arrow next to private and change the visibility status to public. From that moment, anyone with the preview link will have access, even if they don't have a Foleon account.
This change will also be reflected in the Doc settings.
💡 If you're not a Foleon user and access a public preview, it won't be possible to change the visibility settings (you won't see the small arrow).
How to share the preview
To share your preview, you can copy the preview URL from your browser's address bar.
Alternatively, click the share preview button in the top-right corner of the preview.
Click copy link to save the URL to your clipboard and share it with your stakeholders.
In this window, you can also change a private preview to public (or vice-versa) when you're a Foleon user.
Tip: check your preview on different devices
We suggest you open the preview on different devices to see what your content looks like on a mobile phone or tablet. Share the preview URL with your device and check if it aligns with your expectations.
💡 The mobile view in the editor is a general size. It’s wise to check your content on your own (real) mobile phone.
Because the left and right spacing changes according to your screen size, we recommend always using the same browser window size when creating your Foleon Doc. Using the same browser size every time you adjust the spacing will make your designs more consistent.
To enable this, we would recommend that you install the Google Chrome plugin Window Resizer. This plugin allows you to quickly alter your browser screen to adapt to different sizes, making it easier to adapt your design to various screens.
