You can save pages, overlays, and blocks as templates to reuse them in your Foleon Docs. Templates will help you to save time and stay on-brand. In this article, you’ll learn how to save your content as templates and manage them in the Template Manager.
💡 Some plans have a maximum amount of templates. If you're interested in saving more content as a template, please contact our Customer Success Management team.

Saving content as templates
-
Docs
When you save a Foleon Doc as a template, you jump-start other creators to create on-brand content.
Open a project and navigate to a Foleon Doc you want to save. Click the quick actions menu (the 3 little dots) and select Save as Doc template.
📖 Learn all about Doc templates in our article Save your Doc as a template.
-
Pages
Saving a page as a template allows you to save a combination of multiple blocks at once, so you can directly use those when creating new pages in your Foleon Docs. To save a page, open up the Pages overview, hover over the specific page and click on the Save as template icon.
-
Overlays
The same goes for overlays. Open up the Pages overview, click the Overlays tab, hover over the specific overlay, and click the Save as template icon.
-
Blocks
Saving a block as a template allows you to use that block across pages and overlays in all of the Foleon Docs in your account. For example, you can use the same header blocks on different spots in your Foleon Doc or reuse certain blocks in multiple Docs. To save a block, click on Save as template in the purple block settings bar.
Clicking the Save as template icon will open a pop-up screen where you can name, categorize, and set the availability of your template. We go over these options in detail below.
💡 Users with the editor role can create and use templates, but can't delete them or change their status. Users with the author role can not use template functionalities.
-
Setting a Category
Organizing your templates into categories will give you a better overview of your saved templates. You can add one or multiple categories, so one and the same template can show up in multiple groups. When you have created a category, you can use it for all template types (blocks, pages, overlays) and pick it from the dropdown when it is already existing.
In the example below, we saved a cover template and placed it in the "Covers" and "Newsletter" categories.
-
Setting a Status
By setting a status for the template, you can manage the visibility of templates for your users. Only templates that are set as public are visible for other users in your account. If you set the status to draft, your template will not yet be available to users with the Editor role in your account.
💡 Only the templates which are set as public will be visible for all users that are not an admin user.
The Template Manager
You can manage your templates in the dashboard. In the dashboard, click Templates on the left-hand side of your screen. This will open up the Template Manager.
The Template Manager gives you an overview of all of your templates, and lets you create, edit and manage them.
-
Manage and edit your templates
Click on any template to open up the template settings. Over here, you can change the template name, change categories, and set a different status for the template.
💡 Click on the 3 dots of a template to Preview, Edit, Duplicate, and Delete the template.
In case you want to edit the template itself, then click on edit in the template settings, or the pencil icon to launch the template editor and start editing. Click done to save the edited template.Categories can be managed by clicking on the three dots when hovering over them in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen. You will then be able to rename or delete the template.💡 When you are using the same category for different template types, renaming or deleting that category will change it for all template types.
-
Create templates from scratch
Next to saving existing content as a template in the editor, you can also create a template from scratch in the Template Manager.
To create a new template, first select either Pages, Blocks, or Overlays from the menu. Then click on the Start from scratch "+" icon.
Start by naming your template (don’t worry if you don’t have the ideal name yet, you can always change it later). Set the status to Available or Draft, depending on your plans.
💡 You don't have to add categories, but it can help with organizing your templates if you scale up your content creation.
Click on Save to go to the template editor mode. This mode is slightly different from the normal Foleon Doc editor as it’s designed for editing your templates.
💡 When creating a block template you can only add elements. Once you drag & drop an element, a Block is automatically created.
⚠️ If you’re using a custom font in your Foleon Docs, this font will not show in the template editor, as this editor doesn’t have access to your custom fonts library. When a template is used in a Doc, it will take over its fonts from the brand settings. This way the template will automatically inherit the style of the Doc you’re working on.
Once you’re done with your template, click Done to go back to the dashboard. Your template will be saved with the status you selected when creating the template.
Use a saved template
Saved block templates can be found in the Blocks section of the editor. There, you can drag and drop the blocks onto your page.
💡 Changing the block in the page won’t affect the block template itself.
Saved page templates and overlay templates will show up in the Choose a template screen when creating a new page or a new overlay.
💡 Only the templates which are set as available will be visible for all users that are not admin users.
User privileges
In the table below, we have summarized the user role privileges for templating functionalities in the editor.
💡 Users with the editor role can create and use templates, but can't delete them or change their status. Users with the author role can not use template functionalities.
